Standing as a grand symbol of the city of Xi’an, Xian Bell Tower was built during the early Ming Dynasty. Encompassing a few large bronze-cast bells of the Tang Dynasty, the tower is a splendid traditional building. With a height of approximately 40 metres, the tower is made of timber and brick. Built by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang back in 1384, with the intention of providing early warning of attack by rivals and dominating the surrounding countryside, the tower has great historical significance. The two storied tower features three layers of eaves. Adorning the tower is Ming-style architecture with gilded colour painting, gold-plating on the roof and dark green glazed tiles on the eaves. The magnificent bell tower is part of several legends in the region. Travellers seeking Xian accommodation, should consider staying at service apartments Xian has to offer.
