If the chance of actually cuddling or even holding a koala has got you excited, then the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane is the place to visit. Read on for more!
Getting There
Home to over 130 koalas, the sanctuary which is billed as the first of its kind in the world (not to mention the largest too) is around a 20 minute drive from Brisbane City and Oaks Lexicon. Those using public bus services can take Bus 430 from the Queen Street Station or Bus 445 from Adelaide Street.
Cuddly Koalas
One of the sanctuary’s key allures is the chance to hold koalas and yes, even give them a cuddle. Only a limited time is allocated for this activity per day, so carefully plan a visit here from your Brisbane CBD hotels. On some occasions, it may not take place like if koalas show reluctance (they are creatures of the wild after all). Hopefully, you will get to enjoy the experience!
Other Wildlife Encounters
Koalas are by no means the only wildlife you can get up close to. You can hand-feed kangaroos, wallabies and lorikeets and meet barn animals like sheep as well as miniature pigs and goats. There’s a Sheep Dog Show where you can see these dogs in action and a Free Flight Raptor Show featuring falcons, eagles, owls and more.
But Wait, There’s More!
The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is home to much more native wildlife; you have the chance to see the platypus, Tasmanian devil, dingo, kookaburra, emu and common wombat too.
