The many tourist attractions such as Wat Phra Kaew and other activities in Bangkok have attracted tourists into the city. This has lead to many accommodation options such as service apartments in Bangkok popping up. Wat Phra Kaew is located adjoining the Grand Palace which is also an iconic monument in the city. Serviced apartments such as Metropole Bangkok are located in close proximity to Wat Phra Kaew.
The Wat Phra Kaew is located in a compound where one can easily spend time trying to evade being in other tourists pictures. Regardless the temple is a must visit when in Bangkok. With over 100 colourful buildings, golden spires as well as glittering mosaics. The compound with all its structures is believed to have been built around the same time when Bangkok was founded- that is in 1782.
Wat Phra Kaew is one of Thailand’s most sacred temples. This is where the Emerald Buddha, which is a tiny structure of Lord Buddha ranging between 60-75 cm is housed. The statue is elevated and is high up above tourists and worshippers. Even though not much is known about the statue, one thing that is definite is that it is not made of actual emerald but rather of jade. Photography is prohibited within the temple hence it is hard to get an up-close look at the statue especially because it is so high up. The statue is in a glass box and is believed to belong to the 15th century and is the cause of many wars. The statue’s robes are changed three times every year by the king himself. The robe differs from season to season.
