Built during the time of the Jing Dynasty, the temple was referred to as the “Samantabhadra Temple” and further was changed to a number of names with the establishing of the various dynasties in China. In the Tang Dynasty the shrine was called the “White Water Temple” and commencing from the Ming Dynasty, the name “Wannian Temple” was mentioned and remains as its present name. Those venturing into its premises will be greeted by the Beamless Hall which houses the bronze statue of Samantabadhra Buddha riding a white elephant. Weighing 62 tons, the statuette has been the subject of many a devotee. If one wishes to spend time here in a moment of quiet prayer, the temple provides ample space to do just that.
