The fort Fredrick is a Portuguese built fort in the heart of the town. Completed in 1624, on Swami Malai which is the home to the religiously important temple Koneshwaram. Initially the fort was known as the fort of triquillimale.Later the fort was captured by the Dutch and a new fort was built later on the last colonial rulers to occupy the fort were the British.
Today the fort is a major tourist attraction, and the temple on top of the rock has been renovated and large numbers of Hindu devotees make their way up here.
