Overview
Siem Reap is the closest city to the very famous temples of Angkor. The name ‘Siem Reap’ literally means Siamese defeated, which refers to the victory of the Khmer Empire over the Thai kingdom army in the 17th century. During the start of the millennium, Siem Reap was a simple provincial town with a few facilities, today, the city is completely different from the Siem Reap from the year 2000. Today, there are endless and many a luxury hotel in Siem Reap the likes of Anantara Angkor Resort to choose from, to either dine-in or stay.
Climate
Fear not about the climate as Cambodia is known for its warmth and humidity – the perfect tropical climate. However, it’s best if you avoid the monsoon season as the rain can cause certain countryside roads to be impassable.
Economy
Foreign tourism plays a big role in the Siem Reap province, mainly due to the famous Angkor Temples. Apart from tourism, the fishery is the other contributor to the economy – as thousands of tons are exported to the other provinces with the country and outside of Cambodia.
