Lantau Island is among the main tourist attractions in Hong Kong. Not only is it the largest island, but it is also home to a number of key attractions including a spectacular cable car ride, Hong Kong Disneyland, Inspiration Lake – the largest artificial lake in Hong Kong, Tian Tan Buddha Statue, Po Lin Monastery, Tai O – also known as the “Eastern Venice”, and is also home to Chinese White Dolphins. With all these to entertain and engage the visitor, it is inevitable then that you visit Lantau Island on your visit to Hong Kong.
As a result of the construction of Lantau Link, a special road that connects Lantau Island with the heart of Hong Kong, it has become much easier for the visitors to reach the island. As the Island is not that removed from favourite resort options like Cosmo Hotel Wan Chai, Hong Kong explorers often make at least a day trip to Lantau Island. However, with all that there is to explore, one day is definitely not enough to do justice to the Island. Disneyland itself would require at least two days to do a full walk through. But the other attractions of the island such as Tian Tan Buddha statue and Po Lin Monastery require separate days for themselves. The island is roughly 57 square miles. It would not be favourable to explore the island on foot. But you can always take a taxi or the bus, or best out of all the options, rent bicycles and ride around exploring the area.
There are plenty of restaurants and hotels on the island itself if you wish to stay here overnight. Most of the key attractions have thematic hotels and restaurants which while a bit on the expensive side will nonetheless add a nice touch to your holistic experience.
All in all, Lantau Island is a must visit on your visit to Hong Kong. But due to the sheer number of attractions that the island holds, it would be best if you do your research in advance so you can manage your time effectively.
