Turtles come into the beaches in Tangalle during their egg-laying season and thanks to conservation efforts by tourism and other environmental watchdogs, this has become a thriving and protected venture.
The Story
Over five of the seven species of turtles in the ocean come into Rekawa Beach to lay eggs. You can witness this in groups thanks to organized tours but be sure to insist that your groups aren’t large and that they don’t in anyway disturb the animals. This is where Sri Lanka luxury hotels come in.
Turtle Season
Thanks to conservation efforts by resorts like Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, turtles are able to swim safely to shore during the April to July season and lay their eggs in protected beach strips.
How to Get There
Visitors can enquire with their hotel if they are interested in visiting the turtles when they are laying eggs though you must be mindful and careful as to not disturb the animals. You can also go visit the hatcheries and see turtle eggs, rehabilitated animals and much more.
