An island located on the eastern coast of Thailand, Koh Samui is a prominent tourist destination. The second largest island of Thailand after the tourist hotspot known as Phuket, Koh Samui is home to a tropical jungle that covers a vast area, beautiful beaches and other stunning attractions. These attractions include the Angthong National Marine Park, Hin Ta and Hin Yai on Lamai Beach and Turtle Island.
The most obvious and prominent tropical attraction on this island is the Angthong National Marine Park. While it is not directly on the island, this National Marine Park is well located within the line of sight from Koh Samui. Comprising of over forty islands, the Angthong National Marine Park is an archipelago that is exquisitely preserved and which is home to a wide variety of marine species and other wildlife. The Angthong National Marine Park also hosts a number of towering limestone mountains which add some diversity to the scenery. Another tropical attraction is found on Lamai Beach and is known as Hin Ta and Hin Yai, which are also known as the Grandpa and Grandma rocks. They are named in this manner because they look like male and female genitalia. The Lamai Beach itself is also quite beautiful and well worth the visit. Another beautiful beach is the Chaweng Beach located in front of the Anantara Lawana Resort. Tourists can stay at a Chaweng resort, engage in shopping or swimming and dine in style along the beach.
Turtle Island is another tropical attraction that is well worth one’s time. Known as Koh Tao, this island is considered to be one of the best scuba diving destinations in the country. This reputation has been bestowed on Turtle Island because its coral reefs are home to a myriad of marine species that make for wonderful underwater views.
