The Tree Top Walkway located in Lamington National Park is a great place to bring your family to and spend the day floating above the blanket of trees that covers the park. Being the first in Australia, the walkway measures a length of 180 metres, complete with 9 suspension bridges; some of which are 16 metres high. If you’re travelling with your family, accommodation in Gold Coast isn’t hard to come by, especially with properties such as Oaks Calypso Plaza sprouting up around the area to make it easy and convenient for family vacations.
A deck perched 30 metres up on a fig tree allows you to enjoy the stunning view of the park while giving you a mesmerizing bird’s eye view. You’ll also be able to spot a wide range of flora and fauna during your walk, so don’t forget to charge your camera! The best time to do some bird watching is during the early hours of the morning or late afternoon. Do keep in mind not to pollute or destroy this natural environment in any way.
If you’re travelling with your family, it’s best if you pack a picnic and spend a day just relaxing in the natural beauty of the Lamington National Park. The park covers an area of 20,600 hectares and is home to birdlife, ancient towering trees, over 500 waterfalls and amazing views of the mountains. Some of the fauna that can be found here include the Coxen’s fig parrot, Albert’s lyrebird, blue Lamington crayfish, elf skink, cascade treefrog, platypus, Red necked pademelons and many more.
Do be cautionary if you’re travelling with smaller children, as you will need to ensure they don’t get too close to the edge of the bridge or get lost. The suspension bridges tower to a height of 16 metres from the ground, therefore considerable care must always be taken when travelling with children. The park is open to all and charges no fee for entrance.
