Being the second biggest city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi continues to flourish with historic places, breathtaking parks, striking shopping complexes and mesmerising museums. In essence, Abu Dhabi is a city where tradition meets modernity.
There are certain restrictions too. For instance, smoking in public is not allowed in Abu Dhabi. Resorts, however, are an exception. Some resorts allow smoking in their lobbies. Public smoking is disallowed because there had been an increase of smokers. You do not get to see a single advertisement that promotes the use of tobacco.
Speaking of safety, Abu Dhabi has a low rate of crimes. All the same, the police are in charge of security. With police in charge and the low rate of crimes, Abu Dhabi is ranked as a city with first class safety. However, it is still important to take safety precautions. For instance, travelling in the mainstream tourist attractions in public transport at night is not hazardous. But if you are staying at one of the resorts such as Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Al Yamm Villa Resort or others, and are quite a distance away from your accommodation at night, it is always better to get a private vehicle arranged if possible. If you cannot get a private vehicle arranged, try to cover tourist attractions during the daytime.
Abu Dhabi is a city that enjoys tropical weather all throughout the year. In that sense, you can visit the city at any time of the year. But if you travel between November and February, you will enjoy the tour minus the extreme heat. Besides, this is a season when most festivals and outdoor activities are held. So the period between November and February could be the ideal season to visit Abu Dhabi. Even during the offseason, you can take part in a lot of activities indoors in air-conditioned environments.
The clothing in Abu Dhabi is simple. Choose summer clothing: not so warm, lightweight and made of cotton. But be warned that the city’s temperature goes down towards evening. So keep some warm clothes ready too. You are also supposed to be dressed properly in order to respect the local religious and cultural customs; opt for clothes that cover your whole body, and avoid clothing like shorts.
