While enjoying the sun-kissed beaches of Koh Samui may be a top priority on your holiday, don’t forget there are plenty of attractions to visit too; here are some of the highlights.
The Big Buddha
An iconic landmark, the Big Buddha can be found on the island’s northern coast, easy to access for those staying at an SHA Extra+ certified Samui resort at Bophut or Chaweng. Reaching a height of 12 metres, the golden Buddha statue enjoys an elevated vantage point that offers some amazing views too. The site has smaller Buddha statues and shrines that also add to its charm.
Fisherman’s Village
A great place to explore and enjoy dining, Fisherman’s Village is next to Bophut Beach and a short walk from Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort. Once a traditional fishing village, this locale still features wooden shophouses that are now used as boutiques and restaurants overlooking the ocean. Ensure to visit on Friday evenings when the popular Fisherman’s Village Walking Street Market is on.
Na Muang Waterfalls
Those who love the great outdoors can plan a trek to the Na Muang Waterfalls amongst the most popular attractions in Koh Samui. Interestingly, there are two waterfalls to see here called Na Muang 1 and Na Muang 2. September to November is the best time to visit to view the falls in full flow, while don’t forget you can also enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pools to be found here.
Ang Thong National Marine Park
Koh Samui makes an ideal base for excursions to the Ang Thong National Marine Park, a protected archipelago that’s home to 42 islands. There’s plenty to enjoy here be it lazing on pristine beaches, exploring thriving forests or hiking to amazing viewpoints. The surrounding waters are also perfect for snorkelling, diving and kayaking amidst towering limestone mountains.
