As most parents will tell you, keeping kids occupied on holiday is easier said than done! You can have the best of hotels, access to the beach, a huge pool and all the other facilities you could think of, but sometimes, or rather most times that just doesn’t cut it with kids who want to explore and experience something new and exciting. That’s why Sydney is such a great place for a family holiday. This city is chockfull of things to see and do not only for kids, but for the whole family.
1. SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium
Located in Darling Harbour, this sprawling aquarium really takes you on an unforgettable adventure under the waves. All manner of marine species grace the tanks and other spectacular themed zones here including an ocean tunnel where you can glimpse creatures of the deep swimming freely above. From sharks to penguins and dugongs to rays, the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is a rich storehouse of natural marine wonder.
2. Madame Tussauds Sydney
Staying in the Darling Harbour area, you will come across everyone’s favourite wax museum, Madame Tussauds. Pretty much like its counterparts in other cities, this one too has some uncanny lifelike wax “clones” as it were of all your favourite celebs and world famous personalities. Kids will love the chance to also “meet” superheroes of the likes of Wolverine and Spiderman and even that lovable alien E.T!
3. IMAX Theatre Sydney
Since most kids love the big screen, Sydney’s IMAX Theatre will offer them something truly awe-inspiring. This ginormous screen measuring around eight stories in height is the world’s largest and apart from blockbuster movies there are special short films that will take you everywhere from the vastness of space to the deepest depths of the ocean. This is another family attraction in the Darling Harbour area so it makes sense to stay at nearby serviced apartments. Sydney features many options in this regard and Oaks Goldsbrough Apartments is one that you can consider.
4. Taronga Zoo
When it comes to keeping kids occupied, you can’t go wrong with animals and the Taronga Zoo has plenty of them! Part of the fun is getting to the zoo which is a short ferry ride from the harbour. Once there you can enjoy a fun day out witnessing wildlife from all around the world including Aussie favourites like keen kangaroos to cuddly koalas. Don’t miss out on the animal shows either; the seal show is definitely one worth checking out.
5. Luna Park Sydney
Who doesn’t love a good theme park adventure! This now iconic attraction at Milsons Point is a 1930s style amusement park which has that ideal balance of nostalgia and thrilling fun. The Ferris Wheel is always popular, while there are more adrenaline-pumping rides too such as the Wild Mouse rollercoaster, a literally hair-raising drop at the aptly named Hair Raiser and the twisty-turns of Moon Ranger. Luna Park also has a Mirror Maze which is always intriguing and a fun-house known as Coney Island among many other attractions you and the kids can try out.
