First of all, if you’re reading this, you’re likely preggers, so here’s a word of congratulation to that! Motherhood is a wonderful thing, albeit most times a tiring thing. If you’re pregnant and you’re lucky enough to be heading on vacation to one of the luxury hotels in Maldives, well then, you’ve got double the reason to celebrate. While there’s no reason for missing out on a holiday abroad during the relatively early stages of pregnancy, it would definitely be prudent to take some measures of precaution, should you decide to vacation in the Maldives while carrying your unborn child.
The first precaution you can take, presents itself as early as in the planning stages of your tropical break. Almost all resorts in the Maldives such as PER AQUUM Huvafen Fushi Maldives and the numerous others available in the country, have to be reached via a speed boat or seaplane transfer from Malé International Airport. A word of advice – if the option is available, and you can afford it, spend what extra it costs to opt for the sea plane. No matter how calm the sea is in on the day of travel, speed boat rides can be quite bumpy. This, as your doctor is likely to have warned you, can be quite bad for the foetus. If speed boat travel cannot be avoided, then request for a seat near the rear of the boat which gets jolted about less than the front and middle seats.
Secondly, once you get to the resort, watch out for things like the daily pest control fumigations which are done island-wide to reduce the mosquito population. As a pregnant woman, you will be particularly susceptible to the detrimental effects of the chemicals involved. Find out when the fumigations are set to be carried out, and make sure you stay indoors at these times, with all the windows and doors shut. Another thing to remember is to check the ingredients of all the tempting and fruity concoctions you may be offered at the resort, before taking a sip. Some of these may contain certain fruits, which, while certainly exotic and delicious, may not be advisable to consume during pregnancy. Common examples include pineapple, papaya and lime. This is by no means an exhaustive list for safety tips for pregnant women; however, paying attention these points will certainly increase the likelihood of you and your unborn child having a safe vacation in the Maldives.
