The Prince’s Castle is located on a hill overlooking the town of Phan Thiet. The castle is all what is left of a French estate built in the early 1900s. The Cham towers, a pagoda and the renowned poet Nguyen Thong’s tomb are all located in the same area, making it very popular among travellers. The hill offers fantastic views of the town, coastline and picturesque countryside.
In 1911 the Duke De Montpensier and a French Prince arrived in Phan Thiet on a hunting expedition. The prince loved the area so much he purchased a plot of land there, about 100 metres south of the Cham Towers, and built a villa. The estate spanned 536 sq.m and had 13 rooms. The wall in front of the Towers’ main door was destroyed during construction of the villa. Later known as the “Prince’s Tower” by locals, it is said to have been the most modern construction in the region.
The Cham Towers on the hill date back to the 8th century AD, consisting of 3 towers, each dedicated to worshipping a different deity. It is said there was a temple near these towers as well, but it has been buried for over 3 centuries.
