The O2 Arena, London is situated in what was once the Millennium Dome building. Following the end of the Millennium year, the dome premises were leased out in order to create an entertainment complex. This entertainment complex includes a top of the range and state of the art designed indoor stadium that by making a few adjustments can be changed from a musical concert hall into an indoor sports venue.
Due to the unusual shape of the building, the roof of the arena had to be constructed inside the structure and then lifted to fit. The seating within the arena is extremely comfortable and a fair share of aisle space has been left in order to make movement as hassle free as possible.
Joe O’Herlihy, sound manager of the U2 band personally supervised the acoustics of the site which has resulted in strategically located seating and sound absorbing material included into the interior design. This ensures an excellent sound effect during performances.
Especially following the 2012 Olympics, the O2 Arena has also become a much loved sports venue. The advantage the site has is that the ground space can easily be converted into an ice rink, concert venue, basketball court, conference venue, exhibition space and even for a private function hire.
The entertainment avenue which surrounds the arena is an area to which anyone can visit and tickets are not necessary. This space boasts of clubs, restaurants, and the massive 11 screen multiplex cinema.
Whatever the season, the O2 Arena (named as such after the main sponsor) is a busy place with people flocking into experience the thrill and feel of the arena and what it has to offer. The O2 bubble area is filled with authentic much loved music memorabilia for fans to enjoy.
As a music concert venue it is one of the most popular and fastest selling venues in the world, coming in third behind Manchester Arena and Madison Square.
