The Mekong River has been the source of life to many nations in the delta and has its beginnings in the Tibetan Plateau. Read on to uncover a little more about the 3rd longest river in Asia and what you can expect when you cruise along with it!
About the River
This river has its origins in the heights of the Tibetan Plateau in China and covers over 4000 kilometres over southern China, Burma, Laos, and even the Thai border, across Cambodia, and finally into Vietnam!
Take a Cruise
A unique and unforgettable way to experience this peaceful river and all it can offer is to experience it from the water itself. If you’re in Luang Prabang, cruise down the river with Mekong Kingdoms and explore other riverside towns from Laos to Thailand
When to Visit
There are two notable seasons – the dry season and the wet season of which the latter lasts from September to December. The surrounding areas are almost always flooded during this time but the people are well adapted to the rains, so there’s no reason for the rain to dampen your travel plans either.
Fun Things to Do
Apart from peaceful strolls along the banks of this river, you can have some fun in the water too! Tubing is quite popular, and you can make the most of some of the stronger currents by taking to the river on inflatable tubes. River tours floating markets are also a great idea!
