Home to Queensland’s largest commercial shipping port, and a beautiful Marina, it comes as no surprise that Galdstone has become a hot spot for boating and sailing activities in Australia. As Queensland’s sailing season takes off in March, many of Australia’s sailing and fishing enthusiasts head over to the area, with hotels in Gladstone QLD, like the apartment hotel, Oaks Grand Gladstone, soon filling up with professional and amateur sailors, eager to hit the warm waters off the coast.
The Gladstone Marina is a popular and modern complex that provides the community with a top notch-base for all things yachting, boating and even fishing. The marina has three main entrances which prevent boats needing to backtrack, and an estimated 320 mooring berths, that feature a combination of fixed wharf and pontoon moorings. The generous sized berths can accommodate various vessels, such as charter, private and even service vessels. The Gladstone Marina is also the departure point for the Heron Island Ferry, while the Harbour itself is the end destination for one of Australia’s premier sailing events, the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.
If sailing isn’t really your thing and you’d prefer to just sit back and enjoy the magnificent view of the harbour, the adjacent Gladstone Marina Parklands, will provide the perfect space. Maintained by the ports corporation, the Marina Parklands provides beautiful outdoor space for the community to gather and enjoy. The Marina Parklands has a childrens’ playground, public toilets, barbecue facilities and wheelchair access. In addition, there’s a fully-equipped open-air stage where local events, like the Harbour Festival, are held each year. A large grassy field stretches down to the harbour and makes a great location for family picnics and even a good game of cricket among mates. The Gladstone Marina and Parklands are a great place to check out if you’re into sailing or even just passing through Queensland.
