Lantau Island in Hong Kong brings solace to the soul; visiting the Giant Buddha or the Tian Tan Buddha as the Chinese call it, is a must do when on the island.
Location
Lantau Peak is the highest point of the island which primarily contains mountainous terrains. This island also has a relatively low population density.
Access
This statue is humongous by all standards at a height of 112 ft and weighing 250 metric tons. It was completed in 1993 and is easily accessible from the cable car terminus, which is just a hop, step and a jump away. It is second only to the Giant Buddha found in Taiwan.
Stays
Coming through the Ngong Ping Village you’d have to traverse the bodhi path to the entrance where a flight of 268 steps lead up to the platform of the Giant Buddha statue. Visitors can book Hong Kong hotels in Kowloon such as the well placed Hotel Pravo Hong Kong and plan their visit to this site.
Visibility
The statue can be seen from a distance on your ride in, on the cable car. On a clear day, it is even visible from Macau. You may also catch a glimpse of it from the window seat of the plane, bringing you to Hong Kong if you are due to arrive in the morning.
