Beijing has a vast portfolio of interesting attractions, but one of the most unique and iconic is the Shijingshan Amusement Park, which is widely referred to as ‘Fake Disney’.
Background
Due to its size alone, many consider this to be the biggest park in Asia, however this claim isn’t verified. The park is owned by the state, and is famous for having blatantly plagiarised a wide range of popular characters and places from children’s franchises.
Fake Disney
The park’s reputation for being a clear-cut Disney rip-off has made it one of the most visited places in the world, or at the very least in China. Although it is known for being one of Beijing’s local amusement parks, it is one with international fame.
Notable Rides
One of the most iconic would the park’s massive castle, which is pretty much a carbon copy of the Disneyland castle. There’s also the Elephant Ride (based on Dumbo) and Whirling Pearls (Little Mermaid).
Rides based on characters outside of Disney include, Spinning Batman, and Harry’s Adventure (based on Harry Potter). It’s no surprise you can find this park on blogs like Well Known Places.
Success and Copyrights Issues
What’s astonishing is the park’s success despite their copyright issues. Recently the park was further expanded and refurbished, although some reports say that the Disney characters may have been removed due to a court case by the company.
