Set amidst the enchanting mountains of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya is the perfect destination to explore and here are some key places to add to your itinerary.
Lake Gregory
One of the most popular attractions in Nuwara Eliya, picturesque Lake Gregory offers relaxation and recreation in equal measure. Within easy reach of properties like Langdale Boutique Hotel by Amaya, the lakeside setting is ideal for quiet walks, picnics, cycling and pony rides for kids; on the water, you can enjoy peddle-boating and jet-skiing too.
Somerset Estate Tea Factory
At the Somerset Estate Tea Factory, you can experience the region’s tea heritage on a guided tour that’s amongst the most memorable things to do in Nuwara Eliya. You will learn the art of plucking tea leaves and at the factory, gain insights into different tea types and tea tasting; what’s more, you get to savour authentic Ceylon Tea with yummy goodies!
Victoria Park
Also, visit Victoria Park which was so named in 1897 in honour of the Diamond Jubilee Coronation of Queen Victoria. Here, you will find picturesque gardens with floral blooms (especially March to May & August to September), manicured lawns and diverse birdlife. It’s the perfect place for a stroll, while there’s a playground and a miniature train ride for kids.
Waterfalls
Not to be missed is the rather unique activity of waterfall hopping! There are plenty of waterfalls in Nuwara Eliya and its surrounding areas such as St. Clair’s Falls which is one of the island’s widest falls. Also noteworthy is Ramboda Falls which stands at a height of around 109 metres, while you can head to Devon Falls and Glen Falls too.
