While there are many sublime beaches in Koh Samui, there are some that really stand out and here are four such coastal areas you should stay at or visit.
Chaweng Beach
Featuring the longest stretch of shore on the island is the powdery white sands of Chaweng Beach; resorts that are SHA Extra+ certified can be found right by the beach like Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort. It’s a great spot to soak up the sun and enjoy thrilling water sports too. Come nightfall, the area becomes a nightlife hub featuring bars, restaurants, ladyboy cabarets and more!
Lamai Beach
Near Chaweng is Lamai Beach another coastal hotspot fringed by palm trees with an impressive mountain backdrop. It’s an excellent spot for sunbathing, swimming and water sports as well. One part of the beach area also features huge granite boulders, two of which, named Hin Ta and Hin Yai, have gained popularity due to their rather phallic shapes!
Bophut Beach
Idyllic Bophut Beach stretches for around 3 km and is another ideal spot to be based with resorts here also offering water sports like kayaking and windsurfing. Within easy reach of the airport, the beach is near the popular attraction known as Fisherman’s Village; this former fishing village is now a great spot for shopping and dining and hosts a lively night market every Friday.
Maenam Beach
Looking out across to Koh Phangan, another Thai island, Maenam Beach is known for its village-like feel and laidback vibes. Lined by coconut trees, this scenic shoreline provides peaceful spots in which to soak up the sun or enjoy some swimming. There are some water sports available, though this coastal area is mostly for relaxing and you can look forward to experiencing a beach massage too!
