Spanning an area of about 165 acres, Tang Paradise is a large cultural theme park located in Xi’an, a city in China’s Shaanxi province. The park was built in 2005, near what was once a garden complex dating to the Tang Dynasty. The park incorporates various aspects of Chinese architecture, with cornices and eaves featuring prominently. The complex includes several gardens, buildings and squares, and is one of several modern day reconstructions of historical sites in Shaanxi. The park is not meant to be an exact replica and features several anachronisms, such as the presence of long stretches of concrete.
Tang Paradise is situated adjacent to a lake, the setting like something one would find in a traditional Chinese landscape. Lined with willow trees, the lake becomes a stage every evening for a spectacular light show. The Lake Show, is a production which makes use of fountains, lasers, videos projected onto special water screens and numerous other special effects to make a dazzling display of colour. Tang Paradise aims to engage all the senses, visual, aural and even olfactory, with incense burners placed every few metres along each pathway. The park is open between 9 am and 9 pm, and is accessible by bus and train.
