The centre for Heritage and Arts in Hong Kong is what Tai Kwun is all about. It aims to use modern technology in order to preserve the heritage unique to Hong Kong for the younger generations.
Situation
Tai Kwun is situated in the Central Police station which has since been restored. It is part of a revitalisation project that was helmed by the Jockey Club CPS Limited which is a not-for-profit operator. The other segments of the project include Victoria Prison and the Central Magistracy.
What is Tai Kwun
Tai Kwun means “big station” in Chinese and was the colloquial name used for the police station when it was still operational. There will also be a performance art segments both indoors and outdoors with the events being tailored to educate about the heritage and culture of the people of Hong Kong.
Embracing the Contemporary
Tai Kwun is one of the many forward-moving attempts at the preservation of Hong Kong’s culture and heritage. Whether with contemporary hotels, contemporary approaches to art and dance and storytelling, Hong Kong is telling an old story in a new way for the new audiences. This approach has been lauded time and again and has been adopted by all industries like DHI to ensure that their resorts and hotels mirror the culture and the heritage while maintaining the modern technological comforts.
