Tasmania, just off of south-western Australia, is a fascinating island. It has been labelled as a ‘natural state’ and is renowned for a range of attractions that are based around geological formations and national parks, with many UNESCO World Heritages to be seen. Interestingly, the first environmental party in the world was formed in Tasmania. The island state is a thriving tourism destination and you can choose from hotels to serviced apartments Hobart has to offer such as Somerset on the Pier Hobart.
There are however many more notable things to do in and around Tasmania and one of the best places worth checking out is the Salamanca Market. It is one of the most renowned tourist attractions of Tasmania and has existed since the 1970s when the idea for a community market was born. During this time the market consisted of a humble selection of twelve stalls selling a small variety of goods.
Fast forward to the present day, there are over three hundred stalls and crowds of forty-thousand attend the weekly occurring market. There’s a wide range of items on sale at Salamanca on a Saturday, but one thing you will find in plenty, is food. There’s a diverse range indulgent treats to be sampled at this convention, ranging from sweet treats to iconic items such as Scallop Pies. On the sweeter side of things you will discover a variety of home-made chocolates and baked goods like fresh jam doughnuts.
There are also various arts and crafts to be bought, as well as a wonderful assortment of home-made toys, such as soft Tasmanian devils that make noises as they are squeezed. There are also items such as model cars, books, and paintings too.
The range of goods to be seen at the market are almost infinite, so it is best you take a visit yourself to experience the magnitude of the Salamanca Market.
