A little bit of History
It is said that this was a fortified city that served as an outpost for the kingdom of Hedramawt. It was founded in 1st century BC and flourishes as a prosperous region since it received traders from neighbours as well as for nations.
Discovery and Excavation
The site was first discovered by James Theodore Bent, who is an English historian and an archaeologist. In the early 1950s, excavations on the site began and were carried out by the American Foundation for the Study of Man (AFSM) and by the Italian Mission to Oman (IMTO). A number of artefacts were unearthed during the excavations and have been kept for display at the national museum of Oman.
