Galle Face Green is always a welcoming place in the heart of the city. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the massive urban park has been a recreational space for many decades. There are many things you can do here. You can take an early morning stride on the walking path along the beach. But it’s during sunset that all the action begins. Hundreds of people gather here during sunset to fly kites, play a game of cricket or throw ball. Different varieties of kites are available and due to the strong wind it only takes a minute for them to fly high. After spending your evening at Galle Face Green, you can stop by atColombo Courtyard for a quiet dinner before heading home.
For visitors, there are plenty of things to see in Colombo. One of the best ways to experience the city is to take a Colombo city tour. The half-day tour is on an open-top double-decker bus. A narration in English along with snacks and water are part of the tour package. The tour covers the Galle Face green, Pettah Bazaar, Town Hall, BMICH, Independence Square, Jami Ul Alfar Jumma Mosque as well as a Buddhist temple and a Hindu Kovil. There is a stopover at the Colombo Museum.
Extending close to sixty acres, the Biodiversity Study Park in Thalawathugoda is located within the urbanized area closer to the capital city. This is a great place for those who appreciate nature and has a thirst to learn about different flora and fauna. This is the first biodiversity study park in the country and it serves as the home for many different animals, birds, and plants. Various species of migratory birds, over twenty-five butterflies as well as different types of fish and insects, can be seen and photographed at the park.
