The largest theme park in Hong Kong, Ocean Park attracts thousands of visitors from around the world each year, and is one of the top educational theme parks in Asia. Ocean Park is located in Hong Kong’s southern district and can be reached by an express train ride or the more exciting 1.5km long cable car system. Ocean Park is divided into two main parks, the waterfront and the summit, both with their unique attractions and rides.
The best way to enjoy the park is to ideally stay at a nearby Hong Kong Boutique hotel and then head over early morning to avoid the crowds. Queues can be quite long so try purchasing tickets ahead from the Park’s website or an authorised seller; for example, the concierge at some hotel’s like the Cosmo Hotel Wan Chai Hong Kong, resell tickets and bill it to the room, making it much more convenient to guests. You have the choice of regular day tickets or a special fast-track ticket that will get you ahead of the queues for several attractions.
The waterfront features attractions like aqua city where you’ll find water rides and mega-aquariums, the panda habitat and village, and whisker’s harbour which has more tamed rides like merry-go-rounds and ferris wheels for younger children to enjoy. The summit is located atop of a hill and can be reached by a large outdoor escalator, the second longest in Hong Kong. It features the popular marine world, the carnival-themed thrill mountain where the city’s only floorless rollercoaster is located, polar land where you can view seals, dolphins and penguins, and much more to entertain both children and adults.
The rollercoasters are the most popular rides at the park so expect long queues if you’re visiting on a public holiday or weekend. Try to catch those rides first to free up the rest of your day. There are several good dining options within the park so spending a full day here is certainly worth it.
