Construction timelines
Though it has been believed that the underlying structure of the fort was built as early as the 12th century, the fort was built in 1650 by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya’rubi. it is said that the main structure of the fort took almost 12 years to complete.

The fort gave power to the Omani Rulers and it made them untouchable during invasions. By the time the fort was built the world has been already introduced to Gun powder and the fort had a number of openings for canons for defence.
