Location
You’ll find this forest reserve along the Tambran- Velachery main road. The Nanmangalam Reserve Forest is the last remaining havens of the ‘Vanalur scrub’, the original forest of this landscape. The forest spans around 320 hectares, with thriving vegetation. Not too far from many service apartments in Chennai, such as the Citadines Apart’hotels, this natural gem is not too hard to find.
Diversity
A research that was conducted by the conservation organization known as ‘Care Earth Trust’ revealed that there are over 442 different species of flowering plants inside of the forest reserve. Up to 125 species of birds, 40 species of butterflies and almost 20 species of damselflies and dragonflies call this reserve their home. The Great Horned Owl is the most popular inhabitant in the reserve forest.
Access to the forest
You must remember that access to the forest is restricted, therefore anyone hoping to enter the property must first obtain permission from the District Forest Officer.
