Guangzhou is the most populous city in the Guangdong Province, Southern China. It is one of China’s largest three cities and famous for its modern skyline, but it’s also steeped in a history of nearly 2,200 years as the start of the Silk Route.
A Modern Agglomeration
Guangzhou is home to a vibrant international community with an increasing number of immigrants and foreign temporary residents. You might find this rampant in a Guangzhou Apartment Hotel the likes of Citadines Panyu Guangzhou, for example, where most of the guests stay long term. City of the Five Rams
Equal parts modern and equal parts an old city; Guangzhou has a history so old that its origins have been dulled beyond recognition by time. The name City of the Five Rams is derived from a legend of the five steeds of the Taoists that introduced rice cultivation to the city.
Baomo Garden
Situated an hour’s drive from the city centre, Baomo Garden in Panyu is a great example of Guangzhou’s glamourous past. The garden was originally built during the Qing Dynasty and showcases Chinese art gardens and architecture.
Canton Tower
No visit to Guangzhou is complete without a visit to its most apparent landmark. At 604 metres, it is a multipurpose entertainment tower which is also the fourth tallest free-standing structure in the world.
Sacred Heart Cathedral
Shishi Catholic Church as it is known is part of historic Guangzhou. It was completed in 1888 after 25 years of construction and is the largest place of worship for Catholics in Southeast Asia.
