James Bond Island in Thailand is just like its namesake, charismatic, full of action and looking oh so divine…So, if you’re planning a vacation to Thailand, don’t forget to make an appointment in your itinerary for James Bond!
Where?
In a little slice of paradise northeast of Phuket, lies the beautiful little island of James Bond. Phuket luxury villas in Thailand the likes of Kata Rocks are your best bet at getting a ride to the island, as these hotels provide amazing tours combined together with visits to other islands as well refreshments.
Why James Bond?
Well, it’s not really named that, it’s only a nickname you see. The island is originally called Khao Phing Kan or Ko Khao Phing Kan. The island has been given the curious nickname since 1974. That’s when the Ko Ta Pu islet, located about 130 ft from the shores of Khao Phing Kan Island, was featured in the blockbuster James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun.
Ko Ta Pu Islet
Looking as if it is defying gravity, the Ko Ta Pu Islet is a stunning natural creation that’s a staggering 66 feet in height. Its diameter increases from about 13 feet near the water level to about 26 feet at the top. In addition to being featured in The Man with the Golden Gun, the Ko Ta Pu Islet was featured in another James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies.
Don’t Get Too Close!
Both the mainland and the islet is designated as a national park as its home to spectacular fauna and flora. While you can explore Khao Phing Kan Island as much as you want, you cannot get close to the Ko Ta Pu Islet as its under the protection of the Royal Thai Government. Boats are not allowed to get close to it due to its curious yet precarious position.
