It’s massive!
The Great Barrier Reef is the largest reef system in the world, and there’s no doubt of it! There are over 2500 individual reefs and 900 islands in it.
It’s even visible to space
This says a lot about its vastness. This amazing living system can be observed from space. According to the records it spans across an area of 2600km.
The rich diversity
It’s home to over 30 species of whales and dolphins. They say there are 17 species of sea snakes here, and more than 1500 breeds of fish.
The reef is struggling
Climate change has a very negative impact on the survival of the Great Barrier Reef. That’s sad and unfortunate but, it’s real!
