Travelling to the buzzing city of Bangkok and hoping to stop over at Koh Samui for a more relaxed beach vibe? Here are the most convenient methods of travel to this beautiful beach town.
Take a direct flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui
It goes without saying that flying directly from Bangkok to Koh Samui is the quickest and most convenient way to reach your destination. With a little pre-planning, you can acquire a flight which wouldn’t be as costly as it would be if booked at the last minute. You can try Bangkok Airlines which has around 19 flights per day and Thai Airways which has about 2 flights per day.
Opt for the train from Bangkok to Surat Thani
Your second option would be to head to Surat Thani by train and then ferry across to Koh Samui to spend your relaxed holiday at one of the Chaweng Beach Koh Samui hotels the likes of Avani Chaweng Samui Hotel & Beach Club. There is an overnight train that leaves for Surat Thani from Bangkok and should take you anywhere between 8.5 hours and 12 hours depending on the train. Thereafter you can head to the bus stand which will take you to the ferry stop that heads to Koh Samui in about 1.5 hours.
Choose the bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani
If you don’t want to wait for the overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, you can choose to leave the city immediately by bus. This journey can be a little long and tiring as the bus ride would take you around 10-12 hours up to Surat Thani. Thereafter you would need to hop onto a ferry (similar to the process if you travel by train) and reach Koh Samui after this.
Conclusions
Out of all options presented above, the best method recommended is definitely to fly. But if budget is an issue – it is best to opt for the overnight train option as there are sleeper carriages that are comfortable and quite in demand.
