Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka with heaps of fun things to see and do for those who visit it! Even though 24 hours simply isn’t enough, here are some highlights to add to the itinerary for when you’re passing through.
Central Stays
Your location is crucial especially when you are short on time to avoid any unnecessary delays when you’re travelling from one place to the other. With plenty of hotels in Colombo city, there are many choices to suit anyone’s budget.
Pettah
This bustling market is anything but glamourous but it will give you a taste of the world of wholesale trade in Asia. Just a stone’s throw from Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo you can come back to your hotel for a quick shower after a busy morning exploring the labyrinth of stalls.
Gallery Café
Have lunch at the Gallery Café, one of the chicest open-air restaurants in Colombo. The premises housing the café was originally the office of one of Sri Lanka’s finest architects Geoffrey Bawa and exudes an air of uniqueness and class that is inimitable.
Galle Face Green
In the evening, head to Colombo’s most famous, sprawling lawn – Galle Face Green. This is a great spot from which you can watch the sun setting on the day’s adventure with the wonderful sea breeze in your hair. If you’re feeling brave, munch on some local favourites and wash it down with a cool and delicious soda! You can also end your day by heading to the One Galle Face Mall (which is one of the largest malls in Sri Lanka – located right opposite Galle Face Green) and do some shopping or maybe even catch a movie at the PVR cinema there as well!
