The 243 km two lane highway from Torquay to Warnambool that winds its way along Australia’s South Eastern coast known as the Great Ocean Road was built between 1919 and 1932. It is famous for running through some of the best scenery and limestone formations that the country has to offer. Envisaged as a project to provide employment to service personnel returning from the battle fields of WWI it was implemented by a private company formed for the purpose and was handed over to the state government on completion in 1938. Twenty five years later it was recognized as one of the world’s best scenic routes.
