Hong Kong in south eastern China is a bustling city with a colourful history. Once a British colony, today it is a gateway city of Asia and a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles. Over sixty million tourist arrivals were recorded in 2014, both from overseas and the mainland to Hong Kong. Hotel rooms catering to large families on holiday, as well as single business travellers are available right in the heart of the city.
Hong Kong Park is centrally located and lends more than a splash of greenery to the urban landscape. It is easy to access from either Central or the Admiralty MTR stations. The Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong is also conveniently located nearby, only a half an hour walk through the city. The park is a unique creation of its own kind. It uses the theme of flowing water, in the form of waterfalls, streams and ponds, to link the different attractions within the park. Hong Kong Park opened its doors in May 1991, boasting an eight hectare expanse that attempted to blend modern design and facilities with a natural backdrop.
The park has many highlights and special features. The aviary that replicates a tropical rainforest, is home to over eighty species of birds. The Forsgate Conservatory has an impressive display of plants from different climes and regions; there is even a corner created to attract butterflies and dragonflies. The Central Garden has a tree lined promenade leading to a fountain promenade. The Tai Chi Garden consists of a series of open courtyards that are suitable for Tai Chi groups. The complex also has sports facilities and a children’s playground. The Olympic Square, with a seating capacity for nearly one thousand, is an impressive space designed for promotional events, outdoor exhibitions and concerts. Bird watching, educational programmes and guided tours are also available.
