Location

Colonial use
It was referred to as ‘Buena Vista’ in the colonial times, directly translated as pleasant view. Rumassala was used as a watering point by the colonials. The crafts were stocked with fresh water from the hill top.
The legend
According to the ‘Ramayanaya’ the Indian Monkey Warrior God, ‘Hanumantha’ went in search of herbs to cure their army during the battle with the Sri Lankan King ‘Ravana’. Unable to find the herbs in the island Hanumanta was compelled to go to go back and bring back a part of the Himalaya Mountains. The Rummasala hill is said to be a chuck that fell during his journey.

Deriving from the Himalayans or not, the Rummasalla hill is home to a vast variety of reptiles, mammals, insects, medicinal plants, and indigenous birds and animals. It appears as a beautiful emerald tower by the picturesque ocean.
