Hiriketiya Beach is the hidden jewel of beaches in Sri Lanka and is considered the most beautiful of its many beaches, which is saying something! Sri Lanka has plenty of beautiful beaches.
Not Secret for Long
While it is no longer a secret, Hiriketiya Beach is still not considered as popular as the other beaches in Sri Lanka. It is a little horseshoe bay area in the south of the country in a town called Dickwella. Resorts in the area are up and coming and have great modern amenities like Dickwella Resort & Spa.
Great for Surfing
Hiriketiya has waves for both the beginner and the professional. It’s a great place to spend time and learn because you can switch from beginner waves and up the grades as you improve your game.
A Quiet Place
There is no major traffic in Hiriketiya as it is still very much a village. Since it is a 10 min drive from the Dickwella town, hardly any traffic passes by so the mornings are quiet and calm and peaceful.
Hummanaya Blowhole
The only known blowhole in Sri Lanka, the Hummanaya Blowhole is said to be the second largest blowhole in the world. It’s only 5 km away from Dickwella and there’s a nominal fee for entrance. However, the best time to witness the blowhole in all its majesty is during the monsoon when the tides are rough.
Places to Eat
There are plenty of food huts around the Hiriketiya beach catering mostly to tourists. You can be sure of a variety of food and beverages.
