Koh Samui is a paradise island in the Gulf of Thailand, known for its crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and tropical climate. But there’s more to this island than just sunbathing and swimming; it is also home to an incredible food scene that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy!
Street Food
First up is street food. One of the best places to find street food in Koh Samui is at the Chaweng Night Market near Chaweng Beach; Koh Samui hotels here make an ideal base to visit this lively market where you will find plenty of food stalls selling everything from freshly grilled seafood to crispy fried chicken. Some of the must-try dishes include pad Thai, som tam (papaya salad), and grilled pork skewers. Don’t forget to wash it down with refreshing coconut water or iced beer!
Beachside Dining
You also get lots of beachside restaurants, clubs, and lounges where you can unwind amidst the sights and sounds of the ocean; they offer an ideal backdrop to also catch magical sunsets while sipping on sundowners. One such ideal venue is the SEEN Beach Club Samui at Avani Chaweng Samui Hotel & Beach Club set amidst a retro-chic 50s theme; it features daybeds by the pool, trendy bars and a restaurant serving Asian, Mediterranean, and American cuisine. At night, you can enjoy pool parties too!
Fresh Seafood
If you’re a fan of seafood, then you won’t want to miss out on the Hua Thanon Fishing Village. Here, you’ll find a small fishing community that sells their fresh catch of the day straight from the boats or at the nearby local wet market. This includes a variety of seafood, including snapper, shrimp, squid, and crab. The best thing is there are also food stalls selling ready-to-eat dishes made from the catch brought in and suffice it to say, it doesn’t get any fresher than this!
Yummy Desserts
Last but not least, don’t forget to indulge in some of Koh Samui’s famous desserts on your foodie adventures. One of the most popular here (and in the rest of Thailand) is mango sticky rice, which is made with sticky rice cooked in coconut milk and served with fresh mango slices on top. Another must-try dessert is coconut ice cream, which is sometimes served in a fresh coconut shell and topped with peanuts, corn, and condensed milk. These two dishes are perfect to enjoy on a hot day!
