Tipped to be one of Xian’s most popular tourist attractions the Hanyao Ruins Park is also China’s only theme park devoted to love and nuptial bliss. Sprawled across an extensive property of 188.75 acres this engaging site dating back to the Tang Dynasty is a venue full of love stories and a proud legacy all on its own. Ideally located on the south-eastern fringes of Xi’an City’s Qujiang New District the Hanyao Ruins Park is situated near equally renowned attractions such as the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, Qujiang Ruins Park, the Sleepless Town of the Tang Dynasty and the Lotus Palace. Having served as the cultural epicentre of the Tang Dynasty in centuries past, the venue on which the Hanyao Ruins Park is contained is synonymous with the epic and romantic entanglement of Wang Baochuan and Xue Pinggui.
The ruins at the locale which are still visible today include Wang Baochuan’s own Ancestral Hall which is believed to date back to the Qing Dynastic era. Occupying more than 60 acres, the park also houses various functional regions in the remaining 120 acres. As the premier love-themed leisure space in the Chinese republic, the entire space is a welcoming venue devoted to education, promotion and the celebration of love and nuptial customs. Revamped and redeveloped at a cost of 200 million Yuan the newly rebranded Hanyao Ruins Park opened its doors to the public as recently as May, 2010.
Divided in to several regions, the park’s main attractions include the Ruins Zone which contains ancient ruins from the Qing and Tang Dynasties. A number of museums exploring the nuptial traditions and rituals of the country and its attitudes towards sexuality are also found at the park’s museum quarter. Other interesting points of interest include the Nuptial District and the various function areas in the park that are frequently used to stage wedding celebrations by locals. Revered by couples and lovers as a hallowed space to pronounce their love and celebrate unions, this intriguing theme park combines local heritage preservation and relic conservation with tourism in an ingenious manner.
