Tucked away along Sri Lanka’s east coast, Arugam Bay has gained a reputation as being one of the best surfing spots on the planet. Apart from riding the waves, there are many other things to do here too.
Surfing & More Surfing!
The period between May and October sees Arugam Bay drawing surfers from around the world looking to surf some amazing waves. Main Point is the key surfing hotspot here and is more suited for intermediate or advanced surfers. Beginners can head to nearby Whiskey Point, while Peanut Farm which is around 25 minutes away is also popular.
Soak up the Sun
Of course, you can also just spend time lazing on the beach, soaking up the sun and working on your tan! Do remember to plan your trip ahead and sort out your accommodation and transportation; in Sri Lanka, car rental services offered by the likes of Malkey Rent A Car provide convenient self-drive or chauffeur-driven options.
Enjoy Some Yoga
Arugam Bay also offers an ideal setting for yoga. You will find several places around the main street area offering spaces for yoga; not to be missed is a chance to practice your poses and postures on the beach itself as you greet the morning sun.
Party by the Ocean
Come the weekend, this coastal destination also plays host to some great parties and chill-out sessions where you can enjoy drinks and music with friends. Amongst the hotspots are Sababa Surf Café (Fridays), Mambo’s (Saturday) and Ocean Sky (Sundays).
