The luxury shopping capital of the world, Dubai, now known for its magnificent skyscrapers and endless entertainment opportunities is engrossed in tales from the past that are not known to the modern man. Here’s the story of Dubai in brief.
Early Minoan Period
The mighty city of Dubai, lined with some of the most luxurious resorts like Avani Deira Dubai Hotel, was once a complete mangrove. Prior to exploring things to do in Deira Dubai for your vacation, peeking into the Minoan Period from 3000 BCE to 5th century CE will establish a foundation on the country’s history in your mind. During this era, the Bronze Age nomadic cattle herders settled here, cultivating a palm plantation for agricultural purposes.
The Bani Yas Tribe
Enter, the Bani Yas Tribe into the picture. The very first records of Dubai were made in 1905 in the Book of Geography by Abu Abdullah Al Bakri. From the years 1000 to the 1700s the people’s livelihoods heavily relied on pearl diving, boat building, fishing and accommodation provision for traders. In 1973, the Bani Yas Tribe made settlements in Abu Dhabi as Dubai became their dependency.
The 19th Century
Fast forward to the 19th century as Dubai became a walled city in the 1800s. By the 1820s, the British managed to open routes for traders by entering into truces with local rulers. This enabled their businesses to thrive and reach out to other countries for trading purposes, turning Dubai into a central point in this process.
Modern Dubai
In the year 1833, Dubai earned its independence under the leadership of Maktoum bin Butti who remains to be the city’s dynasty to this day. The city began welcoming expatriates with massive tax exemptions. Dubai then discovered oil, a major contributing factor to the city that transformed from small cluster settlements to a major commercial hub.
