Getting There
Since the river is in the heart of Nantong, serviced apartments and hotels in the city can be found within easy reach; these include properties in the Chongchuan CBD like Ascott Harmony City Nantong. You can take a taxi or public bus to get there including #5, 12 or 51 to the Nantong Museum Station. To visit attractions along the river, take Tourism Bus Line 1 or a sightseeing water bus from Haoxi Academy.
What To Expect
Dating to 958 A.D during the Later Zhou Dynasty, the Hao River is amongst China’s most well-preserved ancient city moats. It covers a length of around 10 km and circles the old downtown area earning it the nickname of being the city’s “Emerald Necklace”. On the banks of the river, there are several captivating attractions (some are mentioned below), while not to be missed is a boat ride, especially at night.
Nantong Museum & Wenfeng Pagoda
Amongst the premier attractions of the Hao River Scenic Area is the Nantong Museum; it spans an expansive area featuring pavilions, gardens and water towers while offering a fascinating collection that focuses on history, arts, nature and education. Also, of interest and worth taking in, is the 39-metre tall Wenfeng Pagoda which dates to the Ming Dynasty.

You can also head to the Tianning Temple which was originally constructed during the Tang Dynasty; here, you will find such features as the Mountain Gate, Great Buddha’s Hall and Guangxiao Pagoda.
