Sigiriya is a huge rock in Sri Lanka located deep in the middle of the country, and a tourist destination that’s loved by all visitors from every corner of the world. The architectural and engineering designs used to build this rock are just amazing, although those date back to several centuries.
The geography
On websites such as Truly Sri Lanka, Sigiriya has been identified as a top tourist destination. The rock is located in the Mathale District of Sri Lanka which is the home to several other historical places in Sri Lanka.
It’s a Lion Rock
Sigiriya means ‘Singha-Giri’ which gives the translated meaning as the ‘Lion Rock’. For King Kasyapa, the creator of this creation, this has been his palace as well as the fortress.
The Culture
There has been a unique culture to Sigiriya from ancient times. Frescoes and the mirror wall are all a part of this culture, and the paintings you find there still reveals a lot about the ancient times and their rituals.
The gardens
The garden consists of three distinct parts namely, the water gardens, the cave and the boulder gardens, and finally the terraced gardens. These provide an amazing view when one looks at them from the top of the rock.
