Getting to Kandy
One of the most popular ways to get to Kandy from Colombo is via a scenic train ride through the countryside. However, buses and private cars also offer convenient options, with some car operators offering direct transfers from the airport to major hotels in Kandy.
Peak Season (Dec-April)
From December to April, Kandy enjoys sunny days and cooler nights. The weather is perfect for exploring the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, nearby tea plantations and the Royal Botanical Gardens, available to visit through excursions from Earl’s Regency Hotel. However, being the peak tourist season, popular attractions may be crowded, and prices for accommodations are higher, so remember to book in advance to take advantage of any early bird offers.
Shoulder Season (Sept-Nov)
The shoulder season experiences occasional rains, but is a welcome escape from holiday crowds. Stunning green landscapes emerge, offering breathtaking views. Travellers can enjoy attractions like the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary in a calmer setting and take advantage of lower accommodation rates.
Off Season (May-Aug)
Despite the monsoon rains, the mid-year months are the best time to visit the region’s gorgeous waterfalls. Additionally, while outdoor activities may be limited, cultural experiences like Kandyan dancing performances, city tours, and museum visits are still engaging.
