Beachside Getaways
Around 300 km from the commercial capital, Colombo, these white sandy beaches are popular holiday destinations and are often included in east coast sightseeing in Sri Lanka. Ideal for sunbathing and swimming, Kalkudah Beach (2 km long) and PassikudahBeach (4 km long) offer great vantage points to catch a sunrise too.
Water Sports
Those looking to enjoy water sports in Sri Lanka have plenty to enjoy when here. Thriving Reefs
Off the coast of Passikudahand Kalkudah are reefs that sustain various coral and marine species. One such well-known site is Passikudah Reef at the edge of the bay; reaching depths of around eight metres, the reef is home to soft and hard corals as well as butterflyfish, damselfish, sweetlips, cardinalfish and more.
Wreck Diving
One of the most adventure-filled things to do inPassikudah is to head off on wreck diving excursions to explore sunken vessels. The period for this activity is generally from mid-May till the end of October; sites to visit include the Gladys Moller (British transport ship), the HMS Hermes (World War TwoBritish aircraft carrier) and the three Boiler Wrecks.
