The famous Livingstone Island sits on the brink of Victoria Falls and gives a splendid view of the Falls and the Zambezi River. Explore the island, take a dip in the Angel or Devil’s Pool, and experience the tranquillity of the serene natural spoils around the area while you discover the importance of this island.
Historical Importance
In 1855, Dr David Livingstone was exploring the Zambezi River and discovered an island right at the edge of the majestic Victoria Falls. The island was home to the local tribe called Mosi oa Tunya. Famously known as Livingstone Island, this local heritage is now being recognised by its original name, Mosi oa Tunya by the World Heritage List.
How to Explore
You can take a boat to the island starting from the Launch Site to the edge of the falls, and even witness a rainbow if you’re lucky enough. Swim in the Devil’s Pool or Angel’s Pool near the falls and take fantastic pictures during the visit. It is best to stay at one of the Victoria Falls hotels which give easy access to your tour, such as the popular Avani Victoria Falls Resort.
A Hike to Devil’s Pool
In addition to the breathtaking view of Victoria Falls and Zambezi River, you can get a thrilling hiking experience to Devil’s Pool, an infinity pool in the vicinity, and Devil’s Armchair. Don’t forget to take sunscreen, bathing suits, insect repellent, and a waterproof case for your mobile phone. Your clothes and shoes can get extremely muddy, so it is best to avoid expensive clothing.
