Honk Kong has several remarkable attractions to see, so many in fact, that deciding which one to see first can be overwhelming. Unlike other sightseeing tours Hong Kong has to offer, the Ngong Ping 360, anaAriel tramway, is something you really need to make time for; the experience of travelling along a cable car, hundreds of meters above ground and water is an unforgettable experience.
Situated on Lantau Island, the Ngong Ping presents an incredible cable car journey that spans over 5.7km of rail, which links Tung Chung and Ngong Ping (where the massive Tian Tan Buddha is located). The rail runs alongside the International Airport Island and Nei Lak Shan, Hong Kong’s 6th highest hill and a county park. Because of its proximity to the airport, you can easily make this your first (or even last) sightseeing trip before heading over to one of the nearby boutique hotels such as the Cosmo Hotel Wan Chai Hong Kong.
There are two cabin services to choose from, standard and crystal. The standard cabins are your usual cable car gondolas while the crystal cabins feature glass bottoms that provide an amazing view of what’s below you, not for the faint hearted. Both sets of cabins run along the same rail line, although passengers are separated by two queuing arrangements at both terminals.
In addition to the fantastic views on the cable cars, the Ngong Ping cultural Village which is adjacent to the terminal, is a must see. There are several interesting attractions such as Walking with Buddha and the Ngong Ping Tea House. If you’re in the mood for a little shopping, the village also has a diverse selection of retail and entertainment vendors. Children will be thrilled with the street performers who delight audiences with their kungfu exhibitions and acrobatics. Before you leave, make sure to check out the Po Lin Monastery and the world’s largest Buddha statue, the bronze Tian Tan, which are located nearby the village.
