For a beach lover, Thailand is quite a gem of a destination. There are so many wonderful beach retreats to delight in here. The oldest of these is tucked away on the Gulf of Thailand in the western province of Prachuap Khiri Khan. What is it? Why it’s Hua Hin of course!
At first, Hua Hin was a sleepy, little fishing town with only the ripples in the ocean making waves. Then, everything began to change when, in the 1920’s, King Rama VI and Rama VII started building their summer palaces here. Since they did this to escape the heat of Bangkok, they named it the ‘Far From Worries Palace’ and the people of Hua Hin believe that this name is applicable to the entire town, as it truly is a place where you can get away from the cares of the world and just relax.
Soon afterwards, Hua Hin became the fashionable retreat for nobility who started to build their summer houses here. Then it was not long before the very first Hua Hin beach resort was built and followed by many others like the Anantara Hua Hin Resort. Today, it’s a world-famous beach resort that has gained the attention of all kinds of travellers from the families, to the backpackers and the honeymooners.
So, how can one truly experience Hua Hin, the getaway ‘far from all worries’? First tip, chill at the beach! The Hua Hin beach stretches for several kilometres with fine sand that ideal to kick back your toes and relax. Since the water level is not that deep here, swimming is quite safe. After the beach do some exploring around Hua Hin. Head over to the beautiful, little train station that is one of the oldest in Thailand. This stunning red and white station is an icon of local architecture.
